At the AGM of the Trust on 26 May, Martin Wilson from Abseil Access attended. Abseil Access will construct the Tauherenikau Trail Bridge, and Martin signed the formal contract between the Trust and his company.
Construction of our bridge will begin in September and the bridge will be open for business early in the new year. Work on the new access trails at either end of the bridge will begin soon and, depending on river levels, a vantage point will be built to view the bridge during the construction phase. The bridge will be the longest that Abseil Access has constructed but, as Martin outlined in discussion at the AGM, is in much more accessible territory than some of the extraordinary bridges they have built on tracks and trails in remote parts of New Zealand.
